Typical tasks for these tour guides include welcome meetings, consultation hours, selling excursions, managing lists and writing reports.

Bus tour guides lead and accompany groups on excursions by coach. Local knowledge, regional expertise, and in-depth knowledge of the country, its people, history and monuments are just as essential as strong social skills and a well-groomed and personable appearance.

In many cities, local tours require dedicated tour guides with an additional license. Without this license, giving explanations to groups is strictly prohibited, and violations result in heavy fines. A license is essentially a government guarantee of quality and requires a high level of training and study.
